Things That Go Bump In The Night.

Yesterday's story about our dash through the Mexico City airport prompted this comment from a friend of mine whose name shall remain Bill:

When you hear an announcement in another language and you are only
understanding your names, it is generally best to stop, in fact best to stop
and stick your hands up in the air, or put your hands on your head and
          go to a kneeling position.
The words could very well have been, Ed and Carole Sheppard, stop or
          will shoot to kill!
The fact is, at the time, I was more concerned about the run killing us. Especially on that last hustle down the ramps, when I looked back at Carol who had reverted to a walk and whose face conveyed a message of Let-that-stinking-plane-do-what-it-wants.

To make the day complete we had another little adventure disturb our night. We turned out the lights at 11:00 pm and all was restful, peaceful, and quiet until 11:30 pm. Then a great crashing sound accompanied by much tinkling of glass brought us to our feet. If someone had managed to climb onto our balcony and struck our patio door full force with a sledge hammer that's what it would have sounded like. But it proved to be something else.

I crept out into the hall and turned on a light. I proceeded toward the kitchen and saw small bits of black glass sprayed all over the floor. The top of the oven range was littered with the same. The glass cover of the gas stove had exploded all over the kitchen. This was a particularly curious development since we have yet to touch the beast.

I went down to the lobby and informed the concierge who got someone to come and clean up the glass, a painstaking process that lasted well past midnight. This morning I did some research on the Net and discovered that exploding glass is not at all an uncommon occurrence. When it happens it is best not to be close by of course, so we are glad to have escaped shrapnel removal procedures at the local medical center.

In other news, the sea air got to us today and we had a much appreciated day of rest. We ate out and enjoyed a fifteen minute walk home. Below is a video from this evening.
