A little preparation for this afternoon's meeting, a couple of hours by the pool, then off to the meeting - that was the sum of today.
After the meeting I had a conversation with a vacationing brother from B.C. and naturally asked him what made him choose to be a Witness. He said he had been raised a Mormon but lost interest in religion because of the prevalence of hypocrisy. Then he got interested in courting a young woman who was a Witness. She steered him toward studying the Bible. Although he studied and progressed, he was not motivated to act until he had a Bible lesson with an older brother about God's sovereignty.
As he came to understand that God's sovereignty is what was challenged back in Eden, that God was basically accused of lying and having no right to rule, and that all of the Bible, and the ministry and sacrifice of Jesus, were all connected to vindicating God's sovereignty - all of this inspired him. He made a decision to personally take a stand for God's sovereignty.
Yes, in the end he married the young Witness sister. He then turned the tables on me and asked me what made me choose to be a Witness. So I related my own story.
Returning to our condo we boarded a bus piloted by a young man who obviously had some sort of interest in Jesus Christ. He had a supposed portrait of Christ on his bus, with large lettering below that said, "King of Kings." These graphics were done in cut-out adhesive vinyl covering possibly 25 square feet on his bus.
You might wonder where it was. On the left side of the bus? No. Right side? No. Back of the bus? No. Front windshield? You got it. The sentiments I'm sure are well intentioned but Christ did speak about "practical wisdom," and I'm pretty sure having an unobstructed view from the driver's seat qualifies. Anyway, we made it back.
And so it goes.
Quote of the Day:
"Does history ever record any case in which the majority was right?"
