Today I worked in the ministry with Wayne Bourdin while Carol accompanied his wife, Nancy, to visit a woman she is studying with.
Working our way up a steep hill, Wayne and I eventually arrived at the topmost house, approachable only by a fifteen-foot high concrete stairway. Happily it had landings at intervals so a tumble would not send me rolling to the vanishing point. On the other hand there was no handrail. I suspect there's not a handrail in all of Zihuatanejo.
Hillside dwellings are sometimes approached by narrow walkways adjacent to, and level with, a lower down building's flat roof. Sometimes there is a large gap in the roof for an open courtyard. If one doesn't watch one's step one can literally drop in for a visit.
It was very pleasant working with Wayne and, although we seek the English speakers, his ability in Spanish was motivating. We had a half-hour conversation with one woman who lived in the USA until a few months ago. She has an appetite for Bible knowledge and was sad about losing hers in the move back to Mexico. Wayne promised to come back with his wife Friday and bring her a new one.
We also met a very friendly and spiritually serious man who invited us into his home. It was basically a concrete box and much of their living is done outdoors in a walled-in courtyard where they have sinks and counters. Although many Mexicans have an extremely humble residence (the roof does not always cover the whole home), very many have flat screen TVs, laptop computers, and satellite dishes. We passed a makeshift tortilla bakery that warms tortillas with a system involving rooftop solar panels.
Wayne and Nancy get around in the Volkswagen shown above. All four of us were in it this morning.
When they return to Canada in the Spring the VW stays behind.
At morning's end we parted ways in the Zihua marketplace because I wanted to visit the watch repair shop and get a battery. The fellow discovered the battery was fine; my watch is defective. sigh.
Then we chanced to meet Peter Horn who had drawn me a map showing me how to find the watch repair shop in the first place. He invited us to join him for a lunch of Chinese food.
After a full morning of alpine witnessing it was refreshing to rest up by the pool.
Kaden and I seem to be hitting it off well. Today Rylan was preoccupied by his new found interest in bird chasing.
Meanwhile the waves keep rushing to the shore ...

Kaden has taken a real shine to Ed. Yesterday he said "uncle Eddie, your my man". I met a lovely rooster in ministry who wandered around as we studied with a woman. Hope to get photo on blog.
